For almost three months now, Ubongo researchers have been collecting data in order to understand the influence of our work. The team of five research assistants (RAs) were in Dar es Salaam for a month before travelling to Morogoro. We’re excited to see what they come back with!
The team was sent to conduct a baseline study, which is when you initially analyse a situation in order to identify the starting point for a program or project. Ubongo is still quite new so it is crucial to understand the environment it hopes on impacting. The RAs have met with about 800 children and their parents, and this huge pool is going to play a major role in the development of Ubongo.
Our RAs are using the IDELA tool for its research. The International Development Assessment (IDELA) tool was created by Save the Children in 2014 and the innovative program measures children’s early learning and development. It covers physical development, early language and literacy, early numeracy/problem solving, and socio-emotional skills.
The team finishes tomorrow, once the school year closes. Then they’ll return for a fun two weeks of data entry!
