Watch Ubongo’s co-founder, Nisha Ligon, TED-Style talk from the 2018 SBCC Summit!
What’s SBCC?
Social and Behavior Change Communication! It’s the practice of using communication to positively influence people’s behaviors and practices for improved wellbeing. SBCC is employed around the world, to improve health, change attitudes around issues like girls’ education, and even to slow population growth. In fact, from 1977 to 1986, a number of long-running Mexican telenovelas that integrated messages around family planning, helped reduce population growth by 34%!
Why focus on SBCC for young kids?
Our talk was all about using SBCC for little kids. Why? Because from ages 3-5 their brains are growing rapidly. 90% of brain development happens in the first 5 years of life! During this time, kids are establishing behaviors that will last into adulthood. In fact, if we communicate positive messages to kids at this time in their lives, we can even have another kind of SBCC: Social and Behavior CREATION Communication. Watch the video to learn more!
We hope you enjoy the video, and we’ll be posting more learnings from the SBCC Summit soon.
